#1 Don’t run at the start what you wouldn’t run at the end. A majority of you should be hiking most of the stair climbs. Keep in control of your effort and use the energy to run the flats and the downs well.
#2 When you can, put your whole foot on the stairs, keep upright, and use your glutes to drive you upwards.
#3 Keep your cadence high and take the stairs one at a time.
#4 Hold the handrails when you can and use them as levers to help you up them. If you’re using poles these can be great for some of the stairs as well.
#5 Enjoy the opportunity to hike, the slower pace can also be a good time to have something to eat or drink too.
