With more starters than ever – Race day is going to be crowded!
Starting in waves will help, as will a slight change to the initial descent now entering Furber via Witches Leap.
Never-the-less there will be a few places where bottlenecks are inevitable.
BE COURTEOUS NO MATTER HOW FRUSTRATING IT GETS!
SQUADDIES are a friendly community bunch and I like to think we pride ourselves on high-fives and hugs. Let’s ensure everyone knows how damned nice we are no matter how slow some earlier parts of the course may be.
The approach that works best is to simply ask in your kindest voice “On your right, when you can”. It’s the last bit that makes the biggest difference.
Passing techniques I’ve tried with less success
- Pull gently backwards on backpack
- Push gently forwards on backpack
- Open-hand slap on the ass
- “SNAKE!”
- “Make way, I’m a Doctor”
- Loud audible sigh
After you pass someone always say “Thanks!” or “Thank you!”.
Remember that you may be seeing that person again later in the day. 🙂
To those of you with more road experience and not so much ‘technical trail time’ (yes, you know who you are), BE CAREFUL ON THE STAIRS! You can catch ’em on the flats!
